Something Special Gallery exists to bring high quality original art and craft to a discerning public while adhering to environmentally sustainable practices.
After a life time in both the production and administration of art and craft Jill Nicholls wanted to do more than just 'sell' beautiful craft. She wanted to share her passion for the human ability to dream, design, create and then to enhance every day objects.
She found the ideal location in the former premises of the Misses MacNaughton's Drapery in Riverton, Southland in 2003.
In Something Special, the aim is to help customers to understand the processes undergone and appreciate the properties of individual pieces. Artists from throughout New Zealand have supported the gallery with enthusiasm, supplying a great variety of intriguing work.
Jill feels that as well as usefulness, skillfully crafted pieces offer food for the soul and thus enhance our lives daily. The knowledge that an artisan dreamed an idea and honed the dream; that one pair of hands crafted the dream into a tangible reality, that skill, care and discipline delivered it in it’s final form, is a constant source of wonder and joy.
Now in its fifth year of operation, this privately funded gallery services clientele from around the globe via its physical premises in Riverton and the website www.somethingspecial.co.nz.
